At the Cross - The Power of Jesus’s Death

(Mark 15:15 NLT) 

So to pacify the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified.

(Mark 15:17-20 NLT)

They dressed him in a purple robe, and they wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head. (18) Then they saluted him and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!” (19) And they struck him on the head with a reed stick, spit on him, and dropped to their knees in mock worship. (20) When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified.

(Luke 23:34 NLT)

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.

Forgiveness

(John 19:26-27 NLT)

When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, “Dear woman, here is your son.” (27) And he said to this disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home.

Love 

(Luke 23:39-43 NLT)

One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!” (40) But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? (41) We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” (42) Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” (43) And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Salvation

When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

(14) He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. (15) In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.

• What happens to our sins when we are made alive with Christ? How can we live in the freedom Jesus gave us by defeating sin on the cross? What does that look like in your daily life? (Colossians 2:13-15)
• Jesus forgave those who crucified Him. How does His example help us forgive others, even when it’s hard? (Luke 23:34)
• How can we share the good news of Jesus’s victory with our words and actions? (Mark 15:39)
• Jesus trusted God’s plan even in suffering. How can we trust God’s plan for our lives, especially during difficult times? (Luke 23:46)
